Ever wondered what to do with all those bits and bobs and found objects that you have been collecting over the years, well, here’s your answer!

Aim: You will learn the skills needed to complete a piece of jewellery, either a brooch or pendant, within a day, using a variety of found objects. Basic skills involved will be saw piercing and riveting. You will explore the fundamentals of colour, composition and layering techniques within a jewellery framework.

Requirements: A basic understanding of jewellery making, (saw piercing, riveting) a preference, but not essential.

Course Outline: In the morning, we will complete a set exercise: make a key ring or pendant using letters (monogram)

We will experiment with coloured Perspex, an exercise in colour contrast and composition. In the afternoon you will be able to complete a small brooch of your own design, using a bottle top as a base.

What to bring:

  • Bring as many found objects as possible, bring more than you think is necessary as five of the objects will be donated to the class for everyone to use.

  • Mask

  • Apron

What we supply: All equipment and tools needed to complete the jewellery will be supplied. If you have any of these items, please feel free to bring as well:

  • Thin wood

  • Coloured Perspex

  • Illustrated biscuit tins

  • Plastics of all sorts

  • Metal bottle top of a champagne cork

  • Old jewellery
